So part of the inspection I had Ryan G do revealed a leaky head gasket and a few drops of oil in the coolant. With 222k on the engine, I knew a headgasket was coming soon. Today though, I found a whole bunch more of said oil. There's no coolant in the oil, thankfully, so I think I'm ok, but the headgasket fix is my next repair, not later down the line.
I'm looking at $700, or so, total. I was kinda bummed out until I started thinking about it. My money is going really far on an older car....
Here's what I'm getting for my money:
Ryan G's assistance and shop use (he's an E30 master)
New Headgasket and headbolts
Fan Clutch and blades
Valve Cover Gasket
Water pump and gasket
Timing belt and tensioner
Thermostat and housing
All coolant hoses
All engine belts
Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
This is a pretty major overhaul, for $700? That's not too shabby. The only bad news is my 540i needs attention, too, and I'm too far away from making the 325ix my daily driver to neglect it. Going to be a few weeks before I can do said overhaul, but I'm still happy I'm taking care of alot of maintenance at once.
Next comes CV's, then a new shifter/guibo/bushings, then power steering leaks, then shocks/springs, then loads of body work.....I'm going to be keeping Ryan well paid :)
