"""""""Heres your chance, hate to let this go but the time has come
1990 325 ix in Titanium Silver, black leatherette interior, 166k miles, body is in very good shape,
There were so few of them imported, like 2100 total , 599 for 1990, and even fewer left, BMW's first all wheel drive car and what a snow machine!
The car is a 5 speed and has no issue with the diff or transfer case. The beauty of the manual tranny.
The car has had alot of improvements done.
New head gasket and head bolts
all new belts
new cam shaft and new rocker arms
new valve oil seals
new cam shaft oil seal
new adjustment mechanism for the AC unit, the old one was rusted solid
new thermostat housing
new High Performance plug wires
brand new Conti exteme contact tires
new control arms
new rear wheel bearing
new radiator and hoses
new throttle body warming assembly, the little thing that leaks like a bugger when they use the wrong coolant and it oxidizes,
complete coolant flush with proper coolant
The car had a slight front hit replaced the radiator support, radiator and parts of the nose, The car was re sprayed with the original paint titanimum silver
replaced the front ABS sensor as it was missing when I got the car.
The car has all of the center hub caps, not a big thing but they are $50 each and cosmetically look like junk when missing
half bra comes with car
I only have 2 of the original mud flaps and took them off the car
Car is in running order but needs some tunning, still plenty of time before the snow flie"""""""""""""""""""""
Ok 1st and most importantly,
-after seeing the car and testing it... car starts right up BUT turns out the "needs some tuning" is due to the timing... engine is making a serious clanking noise sounds like lifters or timing is off.... guy says when he installed a new cam (also did lifters gaskets, belts etc at same time) he didn't quite get it lined up right and now it makes that noise... he mentioned he followed the Bently manual as a novice DIY and purchased the alignment tool... just apparently didn't get it right? Lots of new engine parts though..... just that engine noise. However, it doesn't even seem to effect performance much (no stutters bogs or hesitation)
2nd,
2 cv boots are torn, still have grease in them but they just need new boots.
3rd,
the shifter is super super duper hard to move around... after playing with it and driving it around for a bit it loosened up a bit but not much or by any means close to normal... what could be the cause of this? Noticed a little bit of fluid build up under the transmission? Would a dry tranny cause this? Guy said it had been sitting for a bit.
I drove the car around and I could feel the all wheel drive system working pulling the inside wheel in (hard) turns. Also the steering seems heavy but there is very little play side to side. The suspension wise its seems good... new control arms, bushings, tie rods, etc. very little rust
Guy wants $1800 - What do you guys think? What else should I check for? I'm thinking as is maybe like $1000-$1200. Interior is ok shape as well.
I drove it and it feels solid... just the engine and shifter "woes" that are bumming me out. If they're fixable and for reasonable cost... i'll jump into it.
