    Heated Seats

Does anyone have any experience swapping the heated seat elements from a standard seat to the sport seats for the E30? I want to upgrade to the sport seats but don't want to lose my seat warmers.

i would say if you look up part #'s on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=P&arch=1

and they match sport to comfort seat then your prolly set ,they did make heated sports so it would only matter that the pieces are the same to transfer over . this being said i have never done it . i have read its not a lot of fun to disassemble the seat to work on the heater elements

      Not worth it...

I've just dropped in a set of leather sports seats into my ix and took out the cloth/velour gray heated comfort seats. I had the same thought you did about taking the stock heating elements and swapping them in since I didn't want to lose heaters. Because the driver's comfort seat was a little torn, I investigated the original seat heaters and they don't appear to be worth trying to transplant. The heating elements were woven into strips of denim which in turn were sewn into passages under the seat. The whole thing then sat on the seat foam. After seeing all this I decided to pick up a set of new generic seat heater elements on eBay instead of trying to make the 20+ year old ones work... it should be trivial to splice in the new wiring into the old harness under the seats.

It goes over installing a new seat heater in an old seat.. Plus the mworks site has all kinds of other good bimmer stuff!
        Good luck!

You would be better off going with something like this.
Quality Seat Heaters made from Germany, HeatedSeatKits.com provides low cost seat heaters for cars, suvs, and trucks.

The aftermarket kits suck. OEM ones go right on the other side of the leather, fit perfect and plug in nicely. It should not be that hard to transfer over as long as you have upholstery ring pliers and a bunch of new rings. The stitch spacing has to be the same on the other seats though (vert seats are different). If the elements you have won't work, wait and cut some out at the junkyard before you go aftermarket. Takes a couple hours a seat max to make it really nice. Thats what I'd do on my car if I didn't have that setup already.

Where would you recommend that I buy the OEM heating pads?
