    Differential Rebuild Questions

So in my continuing quest to restore my iX I discovered that my rear differential though still working and in ok shape needs to be restored. (still pics you'll see what I mean)

My thought was to take it apart and replace the front drive flange, which is in bad shape along with the cover. I was also going to replace all the bearings and seals. First I noticed in the ETK, BMW makes a big deal about not removing the front drive flange. What is the deal there? Also how do you tell what ratio you have?

    Any other thoughts welcome.

there weren't many IX drive ratios in the US, the rear is the same as the front, and for the most part autos were 4.10 and manuals 3.91.

That seems like quite a bit of rust for a CA car...
