    Transfer Case Oil Change Questions

I just got my '89 325IX last week and I wanted to make sure the essentials were covered. That includes lubricating the splines on the front shaft, front and rear diff. oil, and transfer case oil. (BTW... Timing belt documented changed within the last 7K miles)

Got all done except the transfer case oil change. I can see a drain plug on the very bottom of the transfer case but no fill plug anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the pics of what I've got.

    Thanks in advance.

Okay. Answered my own question after finding another site with this helpful image. Thought I'd just leave the thread for other Newbies.

How did you go about checking the x-case spline? Just remove the front DS from the front diff, and then pull out of transfer case? Trying to figure this one out.

yeah you just pull the shaft

it's not hard at all - remove all the bolts that hold the guibo to the diff and shaft. Use a flathead and pop out the centering pin off the front of the shaft, then you can drop the guibo out of the way and pull the shaft out.

Exactly like Nando said. Took me about 2 hours for my first time. Make sure the car is secure and put it in neutral to be able to turn the shaft to access all the bolts on the guibo and front of the shaft. Pretty straight forward job. Dropping the transfer case... Not so much.
