    Rear Shock Mount Question

I bough my '89 325IX about 10 days ago and I'm going through it to make sure all the important stuff is taken care of. (so far, so good)

The back end sounds really "rattly" when driving. Taking a look I noticed that both the rear shock have lots of play in the lower mounting bolt. It's as if the bolt is too long or the sleeve on the shock is too "thin". I tried tightening it and both are very secure.

Just wondering if this is "correct" or will this cause a major issue in my rear suspension?

    Here's a pic

    Thanks in Advance

    shocks

    welcome to the IX world

looks like you have the wrong shocks installed or the bushings are missing ,needs the correct shocks you can try installing some big washers to pinch it tight if the bushing is there as a temp fix till you get new/correct ones, most hardware stores will have washer selection.

here is what it should look like,

Thanks for the great pictures. I guess I'll be replacing those ASAP as well as some of the bushings in the rear end.

looks to be the wrong shocks. But you may want to check if the bolts are the right length. The bolts are NLA from BMW but the dimensions are M12 X 1.5 X 65
        [/SIGPIC]"we are so totally screwed!"
