CV Joint Removal

Are there any tricks to removing this CV joint?

I spread the cirque clip as far apart as it will go and tap on the joint with a rubber mallet but it won't budge.

Just to follow up, I ended up clipping one of the nibs of the clip. Then just pulled the cirque clip out with a pair of pliers. Still had a time getting the CV to slip off the shaft.
