    325ix questions

Ive got a couple questions, and Im about to buy an IX (pictures to follow sometime this week).

    - Is there a difference in 325ix brakes from other e30s?
    - Where can I get some good affordable pads/discs for the IX?
    - Whats the rim offset? Is it different from other e30s?
    - Is there a thread or something specifying the differences in the IX compared to the I that relates to my questions?

    Thanks!

You can find a lot of great info here:

The FAQ article is a great first read.

Some key differences between the RWD models versus AWD iX:
    - Transfer case
    - front drivetrain (including front CV boots and front axle passing through the oilpan)
    - front struts, steering rack (similar, but different-sized parts)
    - ix specific towing and jacking tips (see iX registry for those)

Pretty sure the stock Basketweave wheels on the IX are 15x7 ET41 but don't hold me to that. Just what I think I recall... mine are stored at my 'rents so I can't just go look right now, sorry. As for the brakes, I'm fairly sure they are the same pads/rotors as the other 4x100 E30 models but again don't hold me to that for certain. Cheers!

Because of the shape and mounting of the front calipers on the iX, stock wheels for the ordinary 325 models and aftermarket 325 wheels will not fit on an iX -- make sure that you buy wheels that are known to fit on an iX.
      What a great site! Thanks!

for stock rotors and good pads I went with Bavarian auto. site www.bavauto.com
Rotors were $40 each. That is way cheaper than the ones for my Toyota MR2 locally.
I have never checked for the BMW brake parts locally. Pads were $40 per set too (Pagid). I also rebuilt my calipers with kits from them. My iX now stops straight and short.

The iX rear rotors are different than a RWD E30. I am not sure about the front.

i find that bma parts has great prices and patrick is great at getting me the lowest prices he can.

also, if you are rebuilding your cv axles with new boots, this is the best price i have ever seen.

Wow those are some amazing prices for boot kits. Thanks for the link! I ended up buying a full break kit off bavauto (sensors, rotors, pads).

I got my IX now and am totally loving it. Once I clean it up and fix some minor issues Im going to get some pictures on here.

nice to see another WI iX on the boards. i work in Brown Deer, been driving my iX for about a little over a year and really like it. It's on jacks for a couple of weeks and I'm taking care of some minor rust issues on the front drivers fender, otherwise it's in really good shape.

I just did a full brake rebuild of my front brakes. Caliper rebuild, pads, rotors, sensors, etc. I've rebuilt about 15 sets of e30 brakes, pretty good at it now. You might want to consider ordering the caliper rebuild kit as well. They are typically around $20 per caliper and it's a new o-ring and dust seal for your caliper piston. Most 20 year old cars that haven't had this done yet will need it. It's easy to do but requires removal of the caliper. Front brakes are the same as standard e30's as well....I used the calipers from my 318is on my ix because the calipers that were on my ix were total junk. The 318is parts bolted on and have been working perfectly. Let me know if you need any help

I most likely have seen your e30. My friend lives in Brown Deer and always talks about a hot e30, but he didnt know if it was an IX or not. Small world here in WI.. haha.

I didnt think about the caliper rebuild, and my cars age. Ill buy those parts for sure, considering how important it is to stop in a car. :P I also have rusty front fenders on my IX, which isnt a big deal as of now. I want to fix the brakes, thermostat, sensors, etc. first. Lots of little things.

weird, it used to say under my name what my e30's were but now it's gone. He may have seen me driving around, I have 3 e30's. I also have an s50 swapped 318is and an m3. iX is my daily driver
