    Stearing on iX

I just bought an 89 325iX for a few days now and I'm surprised how much different the steering feels compared to my 88 325i convertible I drive in the summer.

The steering wheel on the iX is noticeably harder to turn. I realize there is more going on in the front end with an iX, but I would think that the power steering would compensate for this.

The guy I bought this car from did all his own front end work and seemed to know what he was doing, but I'm wondering if something is wrong or out of adjustment.

I also noticed that when I am driving slowly (like in a parking lot) and trun sharply, PS pump seems to labor. Could the PS pump be not putting out the pressure needed?

Is there enough PS fluid in the reservoir?

The iX will have a harder turn to it.

Power stearing fluid was OK. I got new tires today and the stearing seems easier. Not sure why that would be; maybe I am just getting used to it.

Like I said, all 3 of my iX cars have hard steering, but my vert is easy.... its just the nature of the iX

Lift the front end and turn the wheels, your strut bearings might be pooched. Check your balljoints too.
Ive got a similar/same issue right now. Strut bearings are f$#ked and its brutally hard to turn. Harder than with the pump belt cut. It looks like the reason the PO blew the seals out of the rack.

You can also check the inner steering shaft bushings and bearings. I have been going through hard turn spell with my 89' ix. Removed the steering column and found all my problems in the upper and lower bearings and bushings. Night and day difference.
