    Painting wheels

Hey paint guys! I was curious if anyone had a suggestion as far as what I should use to spray a set a of wheels I have. I was thinking with proper preparation and application that rattlecan OEM paints from somewhere like www.paintscratch.com would do with a couple coats of clear. It will not be a permanent color. when I got to do it properly it will be in powder coat most likely. Will it be durable to last mounting and last a couple seasons?

Additionally if anyone has any opinion regarding such rattle can jobs please elaborate. I know they are a quick fix and things deserve to be done right but how are they for what they are?

    Thanks for the help!!

You can sand them and have a shop spray them for not much money.
Take it to a shop and see what they say.

good suggestion. But my plans this summer are pretty extensive and some touch up paint is in store for front and rear valances so I was curious to know whether I could knock out the wheels at the same time.

P.S. the touch up paint will just be till I can get a full professional respray (probably summer 2010) so nobody flame me for "cheapin" out. It will be fully temporary.

      Thanks!

Then yes if you take the time to sand them down and prep them you shouldnt have any trouble.

cool thats kinda what I thought. Ive had little experience with paint and bodywork and Im confident in my ability to do a acceptable job. I merely wanted the opinion of you guys who may have had experience with the product.

I painted a set of wheels with simple rustoleum through a harbor freight air touch up gun. Went on great but has chipped a lot in a year or so of riding on them. I'm not sure if it's because it didn't adhere well or because I didn't do enough coats. If I was doing it all over again I would have primed it (is self etching appropriate for aluminum?), done 4 or 5 coats instead of the 2 or 3 I did, and then a couple coats of clear.

I've never had luck self clearing stuff though I must admit. Rustoleum an emanel and made to be outside, that's why I didn't bother
