    Coating vs Paint?

Have a little bit of surface rust coming in under the rear bumper that I'd like to take care of. Going to use a wire wheel to get rid of the rust.

Is there a brush on coating that I can use that will seal the area and prevent the rust from spreading? It's under the bumper so I'm not to worried about aesthetics.

Will POR-15 do the trick? I've looked into it and I hear it does a great job...

oil coatings work, but need to be reapplied or they wear away. the rust wont completely stop either.

since it's not a visible area, hit it with the wire brush and get rid of ALL the rust. best of course is to sandblast. once you're down to rust free surface, POR-15 would be the best choice but not cheap. a decent OTC rust primer for metal should do the trick. then get a quarter pint of paint match at your local body shop and apply with a paint brush. cover with a clear coat if possible.
