I have a 90' red 325 and the clear is peeling and chipped off in spots. The paint seems to be in good shape, but I want to fix the clear. I have done plenty of mechanocal work but not much paint work, let alone clear repair. What would be the best way IYO to feather the bad clear and re-spray it? If I sand the paint do I need to buff it before spraying clear?

From your pictures you sent, your car looked like it had fairly original paint. the original paint on the red cars was a single stage enamel. so it should not have clear on it. those panels should be able to be buffed out, with some rubbing compound and then polishing compound.
however if it does have clear on it and it is peeling, that means the car has either been resprayed, most likely because of an accident. but regardless of this, your going to have to sand all the clear off that is peeling and even the clear that isnt peeling YET, as it will never provide a good base for new paint and will eventually peel the new paint off from underneath. after removing all the clear, i would respray it back with the single stage enamel paint and not use a clear. its not too hard, just takes a lot of labor and usually not worth it unless your doing a full respray on the entire car.
PS. if you get it running well enough to come pick up those seats, i can give you a bit better evaluation on what needs to be done.-Dan
