My 84 has perfect bumper surrounds. I've seen very few that are actually that wavy.

I think it happens because it's old but gets a little worse with tucking, don't know why. Although, mine on my Eta has not gotten wavy at all, maybe because it has paint on it and not regular plastic?

I heard one guy 3M double stick taped that stuff to the bumper after he tucked it, that seems like a VERY good idea to me.

Ya I am changing my bumper surrounds next spring.

It happens because they are old and because of the sun. My car was a souther car (atlanta) and its hot out there.

                Sold it.

i always thought the wavy bumper surrounds were what caused them to change to a different surround type in 86 (the skinny sidemarkers). they seemed to be a harder plastic rather than a soft flexible one. bleh, it looks like the later style just doesn't warp as much. my car has black elvis lips.
I retired my E30 for now...

my rear plastics need replaced but my fronts just need a heatgun and i should fix the one ripple cause by it getting cought in the metal.. heard that works.. i used some back to black after this pic so it looks hella clean now too

Back to Black is going to look fine until the next time you wash your car. Pull the shrouds off and paint them.

                          And hold old thread, Batman.
