    Gold trim badge and numbers

On my 318iS I have a gold trimmed roundel and my 318iS is in gold as well. I didn't think much of it till I was looking at some other iS's and noticed they were all chrome. What's up with that?
I'm not thinking my ride is all special or anything like that, seeings how the PO had taken out a fence and did some less than stellar body mods I've been correcting. Along with components I had to replace just to safely drive the car.

Here we go. I know the roundie is weathered and was looking to replace it. Can't find a source for a gold trimmed one.

Gold emblem packages were the rage in late 80s-mid 90s, from everything from Acuras to Volvos. This is aftermarket work, even if BMW dealers did sell a few like that. Do a search online for "gold badges" - you might be able to find a company to plate or coat yours, however they do it.

You know I've seen some cars that look really awesome with gold spokes or centers, but I've never really liked them myself. More of a Silver,Argent,Polished Aluminum and to a lesser extent chrome kinda guy.

We used to have a company that came to the dealer that had a portable electro plating setup that plated them on the car. It had what looked like a cloth tip wand dipped in a solution and he would reverse the current to remove the chrome and then reverse it back to plate with what you wanted. He did a lot with a platinum or something that looked really nice, came out smoked or hypersilver like. I would like to find that company or a set of those now...

This is all interesting to me. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
During the 90's I spent most of my time either tromping thru the mud holes or wheeling in the hills, then came the inevitable replace the broke axles and destroyed bearings and winch cables.
