    Paint Gun Noob Question

So my neighbor and I have begun to paint my car... using his guns

He has one of the Harbor Freight guns, but what I can't figure out is why the paint is shooting out so concentrated in such a small area. All videos I have seen show the paint coming out in a 6 inch looking fan pattern. He said he does not know either (uh oh is what I thought and what did I agree to with this paint job)...

In my quest on the internet to look this up I have only found information on purchasing paint equipment...

How can this nozzle be adjusted to spray more of a fan pattern?

if the gun looks like this....

then the little goldie coloured knob on the side (just back from the
trigger) should adjust the spray pattern. The one behind it (on the back
face of the gun) adjusts the needle in and out (screw in/less paint, screw out/more paint). The the little adjuster on the bottom of the gun should adjust the
air pressure up or down, too little pressure and the paint comes out in
splatters, too much pressure and you paint your car and half the wall
    behind it.

Looked like that, w/o the nice pressure gauge at the bottom.. which I have now found out was not a good thing...

Is it a hvlp or regular gun. The hvlp guns don't use that much air so your spray pattern may look weak.
