Door brake removal

I am replacing my drivers door and the only thing left is the door brake. I am going insane trying to get the damn spring off. Should I just drill out the rivet that conects the brake shaft outside the door. Or is there some secret to removing the brake spring? PLease help before I do something I will regret.

There is a clip at the bottom. push it out and push the pin up. Use a flathead screwdriver to push it off. (this is on the chassis side)
