Does this paint look like a match to you???

When I decided to paint my engine bay, I had to figure out where to get paint. I know getting it from an authorized mixer is a bit expensive, so I figured I'd give http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ a shot. I figured for a $10 arosal can, it was worth a shot. If it didn't match, I would just go get some mixed. Weellll it looks like I'm gunna have to get some mixed, b/c this was my test patch comparison after primer, two coats of paint, and a clear coat....

Sorry i never really cleaned off the OEM paint there, but I think it is pretty clear that there is no match.

Just to cover my own ass here, yes, I did make sure that my entire engine bay was clean of all dirt and grime before spraying it. If you would like, you can check out my build thread and see my entire project, I will be updating the engine bay process this afternoon, so please be patient.

It's obviously not a good match but alpine does get dirty and will shine up nicely with some buffing, but that doesn't change the fact that alpine II is yellowy and that is a very "blue" white. How did you order it, by paint code, year and model, what? Alpine III off the newer cars is a bit bluer than alpine I and II but it's 2 stage, base and clear. Don't try rustoleum white it's not a good match to alpine II. I bought a couple little cans of classic white from duplicolor I think in the car match area of autozone, I think it's closer than the rustoleum but not perfect. A lot of paint mix places can either gun your paint or use the code and mix up a small amount and put it in a spray bomb just like that internet place did, all for 15 or 20 bucks, at least then if it doesn't match you have someone you can go complain to about it and see if they make good

        hey thanks!
Yeah, what I ordered was supposedly alpine II. My car is an 89 and should most definitely be alpine II (even though the code is missing from the engine bay). Looks like I'll be going to get some mixed since I have to paint a bumper and valance as well. Thanks for your reply, we should cruise when I'm all powered up :).

also, 20 year old paint is going to look different then 20 minute old paint, especially if it was matched by color name... best bet is to take a chip in and hope they can match it well.
