Painting rear view mirrors. Good or Bad decision?

Hey Im getting ready to possibly bolt up another door to my car based on the thread below, but when I get that new door painted should I also get my rear view mirrors repainted to freshen them up? Will paint stick to those ok?

Paint will stick if the mirror housings are properly prepped. Remove the glass, of course.
    I like the matching look.

So for an educational lesson what should I be telling the body shop? Also, how do you pull the glass from a rear view mirror?

To remove the glass from a side-view mirror, stick a slim flat-headed screwdriver in the hole at the bottom of the hosing. There is a plastic ring that has to be turned to release the glass.
If YOU have to tell the shop how to do things, you are at the wrong shop! Degrease, sand, smooth, clean, mask, prime, paint. I don't know if a flex agent is required for painting the plastic housing.

It seems like I have to tell EVERYONE what to do because every shop wants to take short cuts.
