What did you pay for your paintjob?

I'm looking into getting my calypso 325i resprayed. Before I started calling around to get quotes, I thought I'd ask around on here what people have paid to get a general idea.

I'm not looking to get a maaco $295 special, nor the $10k showcar quality job.
What can I expect to pay for a full respray, with no rust repair needed, and a handfull of door dings?

Anyone paid to have a full color change?

Post up what you had done, and how much it cost you.

    Thanks!

i know maaco is lame with the 299 special but their higher end paint jobs are pretty decent...think about it...who else has a constant client base which keeps their sprayers busy honing their skills every day. and i only say this because i went to a private "custom" paint shop that is a friend of my family and the owner told me that...just something to think about

Very good point there. I havent ruled them out, I honestly havent even looked at what they offer, just was staying away from them and earl schieb because of the horror stories I've heard.

I found some decent used paint in the junkyard, came off an early 2000 Jetta, I think. Fits pretty nice, only a couple of sags here and there.

Maaco's actual painting is generally regarded as fine. The problem is that they do next to no prep work on the car and seriously half assed masking.

If you do your own prep work, mask the car yourself/remove glass, and remove all the trim, they'll probably do a decent job for you.

I paid $1800 two years ago. New front, rear apron and rear wing were added . The shop did the paint job the correct way, windows and all trim were removed as well as front and rear bumpers. The car had some good door dings as well. I stayed with the original 85 BMW blue.

My car has been in the bodyshop 5 1/2 months so far... so I'll let you know if it ever gets out.

The cost depends a lot on the prep work, whether they have to take it all the way to bare metal etc. Also, things like type of paint also factor in... the guy doing mine is using DuPont's nicest paint, which is like $600 a gallon or something silly. Although, this meant he only had to do 2 clear coats as opposed to 5 of a crappier paint apparently.

So yes, there's that, and then if you're going overboard like me, you might decide to get every piece of body trim replaced including the seals, and get an Mtec 2 bodykit painted and installed. So there's lots of factors.

That being said, yours sounds like mine, about zero rust and a few dings. So I'll let you know in a few weeks how much a nice paintjob itself costs..... based on quotes I got though, you're looking at $2-3.5K for a good job without a ton of extra stuff.....

Also, try and get recommendations from people in the area, as sometimes even expensive places can do a poor job. Maybe look for places that are PPG, DuPont or BASF (Glasurit) approved bodyshops.

I'm locked in for a $771 quote at Maaco. All the black trim I'm going to take off and repaint myself and I'll be working out some of the dings and dents myself.

This particular Maaco is very well reviewed one, that's very important with a Maaco. I will post pictures once it's painted.

I paid under $300 out the door to spray my M3 at Maaco. I removed all the glass/trim/bumpers/fenders and did all the prep work myself. I trailered the car there all primed and ready to go.
The quality of work was great. There were no runs or anything. I was very happy with the deal.

Once I get around to prepping and doing the bodywork on my Mini, I'll take it there for a spray as well.

I want to change to schwarz, and have a maaco right next to my work where I could do all the prep myself. Anyone have Ideas about this? Still don't know because the engine bay would still be the same color, but I see some REALLY high quality work coming out of their shop. They painted our forklift for $199 and did a supremely half assed job masking, but the paint looks really good, and smooth, considering the condition it was in before(DEEP scratches everywhere).
