A buddy of mine recently picked up a '91 parts car and is letting me go after it with a Sawzall to get the rear clip off (from where the bumper mounts to the lower valance). Mine has a big ding in it and some light rust so I'd like to replace it by welding it to my car.
I've looked ALL OVER this forum and have only found a handful of threads talking about this. I think janderson or somebody has done it but I didn't find a DIY from his threads.
I'm looking to cut right above the area where the bumper would go, trim it and then weld it so the seam will be right in the middle of the space covered by the bumper. I haven't had much time to look at the car but what all needs to be cut and welded at this location?
I'm thinking the following but am not sure...
1) Rear apron (duh...)
2) Battery well
3) Well opposite side of battery.
Does this sound right or do I just need to cut the rear valance itself? I'm pretty sure the wall for the apron is shared with that of the wells on either side of the trunk correct? Since the parts should be the same ('91 parts car and mine is an '89) it should be the same panels.
Or should I just cut the rust out and get a rear cover and forget about the headache of all this?
Thanks fells!
