ok I know the title probably isnt the best for what I'm asking but basically I just bought an 86 325e, and the hood release cable apparently had snapped somewhere in the engine bay and is totally missing from the interior of the car. I have traced the location to the firewall where the grommet is for it, and i do know for sure its not accessible from in the car itself. is there any way to open the hood without damaging it from outside or underneath? I do have access to a lift and alot of tools and a borescope if need be. and yea I do know its dumb to buy a car without being able to check under the hood but for the price it was worth it even as a rolling chassis.
hood removal?

1. Place car on lift
2. Lift car into the air
3. Remove subframe and motor
4. Come back inside
5. Press the search button
6. Find answer
7. Realize you probably shouldn't have removed the entire subframe and motor
8. Feel like a dumbass
9. Reinstall motor and subframe
10. Checkout this thread: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ken+hood+latch

I'll skip the subframe and motor removal step and jump straight to the feel like dumbass step. I did try searching first but that one didnt pop up. apparently just typing hood in the search box isnt specific enough. that is an oddly specific link too. I'll try that shortly. thanks guys. I've been wanting an E30 for a long time and now traded off my 80 datsun 280zx for this one, and so far am very happy...Comment

and that is totally ok with me. I expect it since I know nothing about these cars except for that they are great cars.Comment

Welcome to r3v!
Im happy to see you didn't flip out and call hoseklamp a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles for not giving you a direct answer.
You are already superior to half this forum!Comment

that was pretty much a direct answer tho, and I'm surprised to see this forum actually allows swearing. the datsun forums and the vwvortex forums dont allow you to actually post anything like that. and the datsun enthusiasts are very rude on zcar. I actually was told when I asked a question about fuel lines that if I cant figure it out i should sell my car off before i break it. now i cant wait for my work day to be done so I can try the screwdriver method.Comment
