Are you talking about the vinyl or hand painted stripe?
I removed my vinyl stripes with a heat gun and a block of acrylic.

i removed mine with heat, fingernails, goo gone, adhesive remover, sponges. Everything except a hammer and chisel....what a PITA. If you look really closely you can still see 2 faint lines where the stripes were. I'm going to be hitting the car with a Porter Cable in the next few days so hopefully they'll disappear....

I had the sticker type, but mine was more like the material used for license plate tags with the metallic film backing.

I used a razor blade to take off the stripe. Some areas it came off clean, but in others I had brown stains in the paint. I tried a PC with aggressive cut compound and it still didnt come out.

I ended up wetsanding with 2000 grit to remove the stain. This cause a dull lighter white line on the car. I followed up with a PC and it polished right out.

In certain light the paint itself look raised where the stripe was, but paint turned out perfect.

This was used to take off the vinyl off my white cabrios trunk lid. This thing made all of the above complaints a joke. It took me about 20min to remove about 3 inches using e30rapidic way. This wheel did the rest of the trunk in 20min. This is a must have!

That's exactly what I used to take off the stick-on shit. Just be careful that you don't use it on any particular area for any longer than it takes to remove the stripe, that rubber wheel will burn the shit out of your paint if you're not careful. You don't need to use hardly any pressure at all. Any sticky residue can be removed later with soft cloth and some Goof-Off.

To take off painted-on stuff, the best DIY method is to use a Dremel. I know it sounds insane, but I just did it, and it works. Here's the how-to video:
