    paint costs?

who do you guys recommend as a supplier for paint? Im doing my e30 over, its in primer right now and im waiting till i buy a beater truck so i can take the car fully apart to get painted.. dunno if im gonna take it to someone or try it myself, ive been collecting some stuff, got an IWATA paint gun and some other basic body tool but ive never sprayed a whole car.

my friend is telling me it will cost 400/quart for paint. ive never heard such a thing.. is he talkin crazy?

Paint has gone up but it won't be that expensive. Probably if you are getting Glasurit or Sikkens but something like the lower end PPG or the Crossfire line from NAPA is good and won't cost that much. People seem to like the single stage from Crossfire. A big thing with the cheaper paint lines is color matching, but since you are doing the entire car, you won't have that problem.

it depends on the color of the car, ive been doing a lot of overalls with nason base coat clear coat,(dupont's value line) for around 300$ for the base and clear, if its a solid color i would use there acrylic urethane system called "fullthane", if you have never sprayed an entire car before i would suggest going with an inexpensive system, this way when you mess it up you can re do it fairly cheaply.

the 400$ per quart price isn't that far off if your using a high end system, but i would not recommend that for a novice, or anything less than a show car, even then i dont really see the value in those systems, ive been painting cars for over 20 years and ive used everything from tractor supply paint up to the top of the line sikkens products, nason works just fine for a driver.

remember any paint job is only as good as the prep.

Fezman is correct! Do not spend the money on expensive base coat, use someting from their value line (OMNI or NASON) if you are doing a complete( not just painting a fender door etc...) If you are going to keep the car for a while use a quality clear coat like PPG or Dupont.
PS Good job with the Iwata fantastic Gun!
