    chrome polishing

Due to some serious hazing I am going to need to re-polish the chrome trim on my 87 pretty soon. Does anyone here have any good suggestions on what to use or how to go about it?

It's not chrome. It aluminum with a plastic(?) coating on it.

Just spotted this while I was looking for something else - no Luke, the gentleman has been doing this for a LONG time (he was on Welty's BMW digest...) and he does not speak out of his ass. His kits are expensive, that much I will grant you.

Most aluminum trim is clear powder coated. If you sand off the powder coating (start with 400 wet & go to 1000 wet) you can polish it to look like chrome with compound & Mother's Aluminum Polish. Takes a lot of time & you need to re-polish them with Mother's occasionally.

The trim is actually clear anodized, which means you can't just polish it. You would need to remove the anodizing first by either sanding it off, or one trick is to use easy-off oven cleaner. Then hours of polishing. The problem is, it will look nice at first, but unless you clear coat them or something, they won't stay that way. You are probably better off just finding a set used in good condition or painting them black.
