    mtech 1 rear spoiler recondition

anyone have a good link to or suggestions on how to recondition/resurface the rubber part of an e30 mtech 1 rear spoiler?

I only have experience with e28 wings but they're basically the same thing. I remove the sun damage and cracking by sanding the rubber with my Porter Cable 7424 random orbital sander. I usually start at 80grit but you may want to start at 120grit or 180grit to be on the safe side.

After it's sanded you have to decide whether you want a smooth satin finish or a textured satin finish.

A textured finish looks good, requires less prep work, and easier to fix in the future.

A smooth satin finish will require you to spray a flexible primer on the rubber, sand that smooth to 400, then spray a flexible top coat such as SEM's Flexible Bumper Coater.

For a textured finish, just prep the rubber and then spray one coat of Duplicolor's Truck Bed liner in a spray can. That's pretty much it, or you can let it dry for an hour then give it a light sanding to knock down the texture slightly, then spray a light coat of SEM trim paint or bumper coater. Duplicolor's truck bed liner is flexible and durable, just don't go overboard with it, it only takes a quick light coat to give it a nice texture.

Here's an e28 wing I did with Duplicolor Truck Bedliner in a spraycan.

In the past I've used Plastidip to refurbish the rubber, Plastidip is okay but personally I don't bother with it anymore, it has too many drawbacks.

Im getting ready to repaint my trunk lid and painted part of Mtech, so i might as well do it right and refurbish the rubber part too
