    Widebody/fender flaring question

I am running 16x9 Borbet B's and I wanted to reduce the amount of camber and run a 225/40 tire.

I know I can roll/cut the fenders in my vert to help with clearance, but if I wanted to really flare out the OEM fender lips is there a lip off another model BMW that I could have cut and grafted in place on the OEM fenders that would flow with the e30 bodylines?

e46 m3 fender lips? But at that point you would be better just getting custom work with what you have.

Well I thought I would have the seam on the fenders hammered out to increase the flare a bit to get some extra clearance and respray the car.

I'm not sure what parameters to use for searching to see if anyone else has done this mod before, but I am positive a white vert that is slammed on BBS RS has the fender lips modified as I just described.

I folded the entire seem out, including the pinch welds. Its atleast an inch wider.

On a golf project a few years back we cut the metal in between the flare and the body until there was just a little metal on each end. We then pulled the flare out, cut sheet metal to fit in the gap and welded it. Looked really great when the body work was done. I might have some pictures on my home computer. I'll check after work if you are interested.

Thanks for the help but for some reason the pictures are not showing.

BoxDriver86 - any images you have to show the process is appreciated as I plan to do this mod soon and want to plan it out.

                    Hammered,
I just looked through my pictures and didn't find anything. I called my dad to see if he had anything and he promised he'd dig around tonight and e-mail them to me. Sorry I couldn't get them quicker. I was doing this project before the term "build thread" was common! Hopefully I can come up with something for you...it's a pretty easy system and will flow perfectly with the factory lines.

                      Thanks for looking.

I'm sure you understand that I would like to only do this once and do it right.

I did some searching since we couldn't find our progress pictures.

You can see in the pictures that the original fender lip was cut off and a new piece of sheet metal was welded in between the quarter panel and the old factory flare...

A link to the thread I found the pictures in:

The beauty of doing it this way is (especially if you have an early model) you can easily continue the new flare line into the rear apron and make it look more stock. Same goes with the front, like so:

Another method although I wouldn't suggest it as it won't look nearly as clean or stock : http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...idened+fenders

The VW community has been doing this for years and if you search on VWVortex, you'll probably find more info on how they did it. We had about 100 hours in when ours was finished up, but we even rolled the outer edge in so it would look stock and still have some strength. PM me if there is anything I can do to help out.
