Pricing for Paint (NEED YOUR INPUT!)

I was talking to a friend the other day and we got into discussion about pricing with different types of paint.

Different Shops give different quotes but i think it would be helpful to know the avg pricing or avg price difference between them.

whether you've gotten your car painted or work at a body shop please give your input. Your help would be greatly aprreciated. im just made a quick list, please put the prices you know for them.

this list is assuming no body work is needed but if you got body work and also paint please state that so we know. if you know the pricing for the body work alone please put that as well. and what you got fixed.

changed list for simplicity. put in the info you know for what you have been quoted or had done.

    primer only

    1 stage (color)
    matte finish -
    gloss finish -

    2 stage (color)
    matte finish -
    gloss finish -

    3 stage (color)
    matte finish -
    gloss finish -

    example:

i already had some for breakfast. but thanks anyways.

i got quoted at 2 different places so far.

one place quoted me for a 3 stage silver metallic which he explained was 2 base coats and a clear. quote was 3500 that involved disassembling and reassembling the car, repairing all dings, and repairing a small dent on my passenger door. This was GTA AutoBody in SFV.

the other place quoted me 1000 for 1 stage silver metallic. base/clear mixed in the same bucket i guess. no disassembly but repairing the passenger door dent and all dings. This was on Reseda.

      stage 1 silver metallic (base/clear)
metalic paint w/ gloss clear - 1000 repairing small dent on passenger door and all dings

stage 3 silver metallic (2 base coats 1 clear coat)
metalic paint w/ gloss clear - 3500 repairs and disassembly

The stage number is the number of different coats. I think you have it confused as if its different grades of paint etc.

Single stage is just that, one kind of paint, they mix it shoot it with a couple layers, and its done.

Two or three stage paint is different base coats, and then a clear coat over it or them.

Metallic paint is usually always sprayed in a 2 or 3 stage method. Main reason being metallic single stage sucks, and when you polish it etc, you remove all color above the metallic flakes, so you have super sparkles, lol.

Leave single stage paint to non metallic simple colors. Black, white, red, Ball sac pink etc.
