Alpine White I - how well does it clean up?

    Guys,

Looking at an AWI (single stage) car right now. Pics I have seen show paint that is a bit dull. But the car is supposed to be "rust free".

My question is, if the paint is otherwise solid, how well can I expect it to clean up?

With it being single stage, I am fairly hopeful. What would be the ideal way to treat it and what products would be good?

If it's been painted with single stage, it may have rust that has been patched/bondoed up. My brother bought a "rust free" car a couple years ago & it had been filled with bondo & painted, & you could stick you hand through the tops of the fenders. The rust was free, though (no extra cost). :D
You could always try the old magnet trick. If a magnet doesn't stick there is NO metal there.

No, it is original paint. The AWI is a single stage, like Henna is.

My Jetta is AWI and I did a full cut and polish on it when I first got it. Like Levent said, it went from chalk to amazing with very little work.

Yeah it's worth a try to buff it out then. Try some 3M perfect-it 06085 (with a buffer). Follow up with a machine polish/glaze & it should come out nicely.

Here's what I managed out my faded dull briliantrot car. 2 passes of 3M compound and 2 passes of 3M Machine polish finished off with 2 coats of Griots Garage best of show wax.

The trunk here was wetsanded with 2000 then 3000 to get rid of etched in waterspots.

                  Finished quarter vs untouched door.

Still have a few bits to do but if you're not afraid of putting in some work the outcome can be pretty amazing.

I like bringing paint back. Every car Ive had has had some work done to it but my projects in my sig is a good example. Here is one of AWII with the difference a bit of elbow grease will do.
