    Trunk popper/Actuator/Power release solenoid

Has anyone installed one with an aftermarket key-less entry system, or with an auxiliary alarm unit? My trunk only has the actuator that locks or unlocks all the locks in the car. I would like to add a trunk opener function.

Dude, search is your friend. Check the stereo/electronics forum. If you still can't find what you are looking for then look up Stereoinstaller1 (one of the mods) who can help you with your alarm install or at least point you in the right direction.

Not looking for alarm installation information, looking for information if people have installed a trunk opening system. pros/cons...difficulty/possibility.

I want to see someone pull off trunk pop in an E30.

I have takes apart one, had all the parts in my hand. I just cannot see a way to pull hard enough on the mechanism to make it work...unless it stuck out a foot into the trunk!

I have tried bellcranks and pullies. I have tried several different types of actuators. I gave up years ago.

Feel free to try it yourself, and post pics if you succeed!

          GL!

Survival skill #318 - How to escape from a latched E30 trunk

Don't give up. I've been busy but I went downstairs and took some pics for reference, here's how I'm going to do it:

                  Trunk latch open from top

Trunk latch open from inside trunk

                  Trunk latch closed from top

Trunk latch closed from inside trunk - note the little metal nub that has dropped down!!

Lift this metal nub and the latch will open!

The DEI 524N actuator I'm going to use will push OR pull and then return to center. You can choose between push/pull by reversing the polarity to the actuator. I'll set it up to push. Here is a bad photoshop diagram of how I imagine it will be installed:

This should work as long as the trunk is already unlocked.

Most every alarm will allow unlock on aux as a configuration setting.

Climb into the trunk and push up on that latch while it is closed, see how much force is required...I wanna see this work!

Might want to also make sure you do this with someone outside the car just in case you get stuck inside for some reason.

No, that's silly. Just make sure the garage is shut, make sure you are all alone, climb in there and close the lid, you will be fine. Don't worry about having a fully charged cell phone with you either, you are just being superstitious.

Make sure the car is running, too. Maybe even poke a few holes in the bottom of the trunk to get that nice exhaust smell.

I'm looking forward to seeing this!
