hidden weld holding door check strap?

I have a coupe that makes a cracking sound when the driver door is opened and closed all the way. I see the door check strap connects (is welded to the body) in a hidden/blind spot that appears to be inaccessable even after removing the fender. Would I would have to cut out some metal to even gain access to the area where the strap connects to the body.

Has anyone done this type of repair with welding I assume and any pics of this hidden area?

When my door brake broke I didn't need to replace anything in that forward area. Take the rod off, it unbolts from the door IIRC, then it's just held in with a pin to the a-pillar. If you can see something obviously broken on that part, then you only need to replace that. No welding involved unless the sheet metal is broken on the a-pillar. That can sometimes happen.

I have this on my drivers side door. the pinch weld came away from the body. My buddy who's a bmw tech told me you could maybe get at it from the speaker access or from the door harness plug. I already had mine off to inspect so this is how I know what is broken. if you arc welder you might be able to get the rod up in to area and throw a zap or two on there enough to hold. I haven't got around to doing mine yet only because I have 3 cars to work on.

Yeah its definitely in the A pillar area but I haven't gotten a look in there yet nor do I own a welder...yet.

          E30 Door check strap issue

I'm new to this site, so please forgive me if this topic has been beaten to death.

I have now squandered several hours that I won't get back searching the forums and internet regarding the nerve shattering popping of the Drivers door check strap base (A-Pillar end). I have swapped out the strap assembly in the door. Since it was a new part and not worn in like the original, the result was triple the sound. (re-installed the original after the wife stopped laughing) http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/imag...lies/rofl1.gif

I can actually see the pillar side connection moving when I open/close the door.

I have been unable to locate decent pictures of the A Pillar side of the door jamb without the fender. I'd like to see what it looks like so that I can drill a whole in the jamb, thread it, and secure the base to the pillar without having to cut out portions of the pillar.

Has anyone actually repaired this before? What works? Does anyone have pictures of the pillar after cutting into it?

I'm going to try scoping it from the foot well speaker hole. If the scope works out, I'll post pics.
