    Convertible lid cable snapped!

My release handle for the tonneau lid is broken and I am in the process of retrofitting a right door handle. Anyway, I have been using pliers to pull the release cables for the cover. Today, one of them (driver side -left)snapped. Fortunately, the tonneau was open at the time (it must have released, and I pulled too hard after the fact).

the rivet end near the latch is broken and is now non functional. I removed the loop and relied on the extra release (the one you tug with your finger like the hood of a car) to hold that side down to get home

So I guess it is time for a new cable!

My question. If it snapped with the lid shut, how do I open the lid? I looked in the speaker cavity and there does not seem to be any way to get access to the mechanism.

There are some things that it's just best to not worry about.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

        - long flat screwdriver
        - flashlight

lift little plastic lid... locate white plastic cable end on latch ... place screwdriver on white plastic and push down a bit, latch should release.
