    Plastic bumper brackets on vert?

How am I supposed to get plastic bumpers to fit on a vert when there are no studs for the brackets to mount up to? Sorry if this has been covered before. I searched and couldnt seem to find anything.

I just got a rear valance from a late model so I have the section that has the studs. Any suggestions?

buy one with the plastic bumpers on already.

i just did the same conversion that i think you are doing now.
you had diving boards and you are putting on plastic bumpers, right?
the front was easy because there were already holes for those plastic guides to mount to...the worst part is grinding off the tow loops if you changed the valance.

i think you are now on the rear bumpers.
so there arent holes for the plastci guides and even if you remove the mounting plates that the guide plates bolt to it still wont work because the body is missing the indents.
i didnt have the rear valance so im not sure if the valance has the plates on it or not.
here is way i did and it came out really good imho
i mounted the bumper and used guerilla masking tape to hold it excatly where i wanted it.
then i went from inside the trunk where the holes are near the vents that were from your old diving boards.
i used a marker and made sure it was level and i put it into the hole and marker the bumper.
then i took off the bumper and the black trim pieces
then i drilled a hole the same size as the hole in the body [maybe 7/16 i dont remember].
i then reinstalled the bumper and put the bolts with large fender washers on both sides. i used lock nuts so they get tight even when the connection isnt tight.
    worked good for me.
but since i have the old valance i had to expoxy a spacer of wood to the bottom of the bumper near the attachment for the guide plates so it hit even.
i can post pics if needed.
i am gonna take some thick flat aluminum and bend it slightly and then screw it to the bumper but under the black trim so that it fits real tight to the fender wells.
    i hopoe that helps.
its probably confusing just reading it but i think if you have it apart it makes sense.

This really helps thanks a lot! If you could post a few pics that would be great too. Did you do the late model valance? How much of the early model body did you cut off the car?

        i have a 91 made in 90.
donor was 92 made in 91
i used the front valance with fog and air scoops.
it was straight forward bolt in except cutting of tow holes from my db car and then using the plastic bumper torx screws that attach fender to grill on the bottom side, clearance so they are flatter.

i didnt switch the rear valance. i had to keep donor in decent shape.
might get on at the junkyard but looking for after market one.
im making a custom hitch to carry my trials bike and also tow a small trailer.
i wouldnt even mind trying a valance from another car and hacking it up if it cheap to do and looks decent.
ill snap pics later, what exactly do you want to see?
