    I want diving boards

So I made the dumb mistake of leaving my car parallel parked near a popular bar on a busy night, and now my front plastic bumper is completely shattered. My rear bumper also has a good crack in it from when someone hit me at low speed when I was stopped at a light. I don't really have the cash right now to replace both and have them painted. How difficult would it be to replace them with metal bumpers? I know it ain't as stylish, but it would be cheaper and much more durable. I apologize if this question has been answered before. I did a search but couldn't find any info.

    Thanks

edit: I forgot to mention my car is an '89 325i coupe

Not often we get a question like that on here. Its obviously more of metal bumpers to plastic bumpers.

Grabbing the actual bumpers wouldnt be a problem, since there are so many of them laying around. You could probably go to a local junk yard and find some. grab the shocks too and other hardware. Do your research too.

im not sure if its a direct fit, but like i said, do the research. Your best bet is to search metal to plastic DIYs and see if you can reverse engineer it yourself.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

It would be as much work as fitting plastic bumpers to an early model. Different front valence and the rear would be short by a few inches.

What about grabbing some from an '88? Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that the metal to plastic swap for '88's is pretty much bolt on. If so wouldn't the reverse also be true? '87 and earlier is much more difficult.

That could work. Never thought about it. He would still need a different front valence and of course bumper shocks and all associated hardware.

Seems a lot easier to me to just buy a new bumper skin though.

Would be easier to get new skins but the 88 bumpers would bolt on as well. Would be cheaper too if you could trade + cash someone looking for plastic parts. The front valance can stay as 88s bolt up exactly the same as plastics.

Hate to say it but euros look bad on late model cars with all of the associated gaps.

You don't need a different front valance. All you need is the rear shrouds from an 88 coupe or late model db vert, the dbs, and the bumper shocks. Everything else is mix and match. Alot of misinformation in this thread.

Eff the shrouds. Just bolt up a pair of 88 bumpers shroudless. I ran withough the rear shrouds for quite a while, fronts for a minute. You will want an 88 bumper, or maintain your current bumper shocks and drill out a hole in the bottom in the same place your plastic bumpers have.

Op is going to need everything off of an 88. Bumpers, shocks, shrouds.
