    Touch up paint/scratch advice?

Ok, I have no experience with paint and body work.

So, what should I do about this? I'm not too awfully concerned with the dent but what about the scratch? I was thinking of taping off a square around the scratch. Then sanding it (only thing I'm concerned about with this is that the dent might make it difficult to sand). Then hit it with the touch up spray paint, wet (?) sand it and hit it with the spray clear coat. Then unmask it and carefully wet (?) sand to get it smooth. This is just a small area of the car.

Please critique me, or tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about...any guidance is appreciated.

    The scratch:

Just to give an idea of how big the scratch is:

    Thanks for any help!

Dont use spray to touch it up because it will literally look raised ive tried it. Use a brush and fill the scratch in with touch up paint. Let it dry and recoat if necessary. Then wet sand it flat and polish. It should be hardly noticeable after that

^ get the pen, and a tooth pick. Put layers of paint inside the scratch till a bit above the other paint. Wet sand it down, compound, polish, done.

Did this on my gf's black dodge caliber.

Yep. Let the paint flow into the scratch (may take a bit of practice) then sand and polish. Let it dry for a day before sanding it. Using a toothpick may actually be a bit simpler now that I think about it.

If the edges of the paint are raised at all, you will want to sand it flat with 600 grit before applying paint.

This is true but 600 can screw up the paint badly extremely quickly. I'd do a 1000 grit wetsand (try to tape the surrounding area and try sticking a small circle of sand paper on a pencil eraser to get the best results). If that really doesn't work then go up to 800 then 600.

Yeah I dont think 600 is a good idea. Thats too rough. 1000 grit to smooth the scratch, fill with paint, sand with 2000 then 3000 then buff
