    Repainting IS spoiler

I have an Is spoiler that is half black and half red. For the time being I want to paint it black so it one color and then worry about paint when it get an mtech 1.

So how should I turn this thing black? Can I sand it, prime it with self etching and then paint it with trim paint?

What grit should I use? Several different grits?

    A satin or gloss black?

I used some Montana spray paint, than some satin clear. Came out very nice for just a spray bomb job. Been holding up well. Cars getting some work done so won't have pics for a week if your interested in seeing em.

I have the duralast trim paint. Just don't want it to look totally ghetto. I don't have clear but could go pick some up. What are your suggestions on sanding?

Not sure how the trim paint looks. Generally if you prep right and take your time it'll come out good....much easier if your looking to go with satin.

If the spoiler is in good shape and just needs a scuff, wet sand with 400, prep and spray.

This is the only pic I currently have of the spoiler

sand lightly with 300 or 400 grit to scuff the surface. if there are any areas where you can see the edges of old flaky paint, sand the edge to smooth it. you shouldnt be able to feel it with your finger when you are done. spray bomb with light coats for the most smoothness.

Isn't self-etching only for use on metal surfaces?

I just wetsanded mine down to 600 grit and hit it with some armorall. Matches the black of side trim perfectly and I won't ever have paint crack.

So 2 of the plastic nuts (quote this for future reference) are stripped to shit by the PO. Any idea on how to get them to unscrew?

Stripped as in the socket is slipping or stripped as in no matter how much you unscrew they don't back out?

Socket is slipping. Basically rounded. Thanks. Tried force, tried smaller socket.

Melt them and replace with steel

Get a pair of small needle nose vise grips, should bite onto them good.

Heat might work but the amount required might damage the paint or spoiler.

Cars at the shop but its possible the small channel locks in the tool kit might be able to get up there and loosen em
