    What paint for iS lip/rockers

1990 Shwarz sedan, got a new iS lip from Blunttech that I was planning on having painted proffessionally but most places are asking more than I care to pay to spray it. General research says SEM Trim Black is the way to go but I worry about its durability as a daily driver. General consensus pretty positive on SEM or should I look into something like a rockguard to match the texture of the stock valance, and take the opportunity to reduce the fading on the rockers.

I do not want a hackjob appearance and am willing to put a few bucks into making it durable/well matched, but not car show perfect. The $200+ for a pro spray of the lip is too much for a minor cosmetic part.

I matched mine to the body color with paint from paintscratch.com. Good stuff, and the color matched very well. One can was enough for the iS lip. I now have some rock chips, but I think that was due to my clearcoat job being insufficient. I plan on doing a re-spray sometime soon, and then using 3M clear bra to protect it.

You just bought a colour matched rattle can from them? How about clear coat? Same thing?

I used some leftover clear I bought for a motorcycle painting project from a place called ArtPrimo in Seattle. It was called Belton Molotow Premium. High quality stuff...

I'm sure the clear that paintscratch sells is probably better, but it's also 30 bucks instead of 6. And to really get a nice clear glaze, it takes a lot of paint and a lot of wet-sanding. I was being impatient, but in retrospect it would have turned out almost perfect had I sprayed and wet-sanded another coat or two. Also, letting the paint cure for a week or so before putting it on the car is a good way to avoid rock chips. I let mine sit for about a day and a half, and clearly the paint was still soft. The lower lip is a pretty high-abuse area though, so I don't know if that would have helped that much in the end or not. Like I said before, 3M clear bra will be used next time I do this.
