Another Cabrio skirt option? Help from you e34 guys!

So I was ruttin thru my local PnP and stumbled on this e34 with oem skirts on it...

My question is, does anybody have access to these skirts? These were pinned between the body and the wheel stands. Im wondering if these can some how be modified to fit a cabrio as the taurus skirts have been done on an e30. This way, at least its a BMW part.

Im sure someone out there has a e34 and a cabrio to see if this is somewhat possible.

    Cheers!

I mocked up an e34 m-tech skirt onto an e30 convertible at the junkyard recently and I can tell you they are a very good fit. It wrapped around the rocker panel nearly perfectly. The length of course would need to be shortened but otherwise I was really surprised how well it fit. I bet you could probably even use the black square OEM clips on the underside.

I didn't go any further than that but I could definitely seeing it being the taurus skirt equivalent for e30 verts. It's just a matter of someone stepping up and buying a set and putting in a bit of work.

btw, for anyone that tries this, I think when I was mocking it up I had the skirt backwards, i.e., the e34 passenger side skirt was on the e30 driver side. The skirt looks the same either forwards or backwards so give it a try both ways to see what fits better.

edit: oh just a tip for anyone trying to get pinned side skirts at picknpull. Just use their engine hoist and lift up the car a bit. Technically you're not really allowed to jack up the cars at the yard, so if you do it make sure you do it safely.

that looks hard to mod and make look good. the top section along with the uniformity that runs along the door may make this hard. unless your going to cut and run this under the rocket panel trim.

^ yeah, it seemed the way to do it would be to cut that top section off of the e34 skirt and run the skirt below the e30 rocker panel molding.

But I bet keeping the stock e30 rocker panel molding in place would look a little funny so I was thinking to swap out the e30 rocker panel molding for some kind of low profile flat trim. Something that looks like the 1" flat piece attached to the bottom of the e34 doors, but as one long continuous piece.

Maybe even use a long piece of painted flat aluminum, cut to size with rounded or beveled edges or god forbid use some of that black low profile trim they have in rolls at Pepboys. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure out something that would work.

Hopefully boomer doesn't mind me using his pic, here's a pic of coupe m-tech II skirts on a vert with the stock rocker panel molding above it. I think a modified e34 m-tech skirt would look very similar.

This is what I was thinking. It looks as if the bottom would fit very nice, it looked very familiar.

I dont mind putting in some time to make it work as long as it the look im going for. I really want some ASC skirts but they are herd to find.

I would have taken these off it they werent stuck under the car. I actually thought about just cutting it out of the car. Those dollys look medieval!

I actually bought some MT2 skirts and test fitted them. I just couldnt get over the lip that would remain since I wont have the pods. Since I have a lighter colored car, the lines will show more than a darker colored car. I have referenced that pic several times, and something just doesnt work for me...may it just needs to be lowered.
