    Tucked Diving Board brackets

I have a "new to me" early model e30 coupe, and quickly learned that I had the misfortune of not having sleek bumpers. I found the threads on drilling and pushing in the diving board bumpers, and decided I wasn't going to bother. I painted my chrome bumpers black, and called it a day.

Well, over on bimmerforums (active member there for the e36), I was sharing what little I know, and mentioned I was toying with the idea of making an adapter bracket for the DB's and just leaving the shocks out of the equation. You know... since they're most likely seized anyways, and they're only good for 5-15 mph tops.

    Someone else went "Like these?":

Pretty clean right? I might want the front a little farther in, but that's about it. I did a quick search, and these didn't come up any where on R3V...

Is any one else using these, or does any one even know these exist?
If so, how was fitment and install?

Seems pretty pointless to pay for something that is essentially free. Call me cheap, but it isn't impossible to tuck bumpers. A drill bit & a bit of force is all it takes. You don't even need to tuck 100%. I didn't. Just go till desired length then redrill add a fat bolt. Done.

Yep and were too cheap to buy the brackets. Makes no difference really no one sees em and front takes a bit of time to drill if you need to remove a front lip, and rear takes all of 10 minutes. Heck I didn't even put a screw in mine to hold em in place, they don't move.

And the front can move in more... My bumper sits flush with my IS lip.

Yeah I understand that just drilling out the shocks is free, just curious if anyone had gone this route.

that's a lot of money. but it's a good idea!

i personally am thinking of going the 89-91 vert bumper shock route. they are shorter than other bumper shocks. i'd prefer there to be at least some give in case of a collision, so the frame rails don't get fucked up (this is likely just wishful thinking, because all e30's seem to get totalled out..)

Raising from the dead. Anyone ever actually purchase this?

Assuming we are all too cheap to do this, but figured I'd ask

My bumper shocks are cut to length and welded. I also sectioned some of the hidden areas of the bumpers themselves for maximum (imagined) performance gain. I must say they are pretty light and next to useless in an accident.

The rear plastic bumper on my mint-ish 65K convertible got scuffed in a very light rear end tap. I fought with the other driver's insurer for 2 months to prevent them from totalling the car and barely prevailed. I anything serious happens to your bumper, you're unlikely to avoid a total loss. Just drill them, or better - leave stock. I've tucked 2, and they look retarded.
