Friend of a friend kind of thing. One of the problems is that you cannot ask for the paint the dry faster, or the sand paper to move faster either, so the job is taking waaaay too long as evidenced by the photos though.1997 328i - SOLD

I painted mine red. I think it visually lowers the car. Painted the pinch weld black so it's not anymore noticable. The black creates a harsh line IMO.
Still have to do the rear.

The black still looks great and I'm sure you're anxious for your car to be done. With all new paint it's going to look awesome.91 318is M50 swapped

When I bought my 318is in Brilliant it had the decklid lip spoiler painted bumper trim black and it made me realize how properly 80s the car looks with black trim. I'll be adding an IS front lip spoiler soon (mine is the standard I piece) and plan on painting it the same bumper trim color. I think it will look great and will balance the rear trim.. reminds me of a guards red 930 scheme. The black looks great with red! And never, ever paint the rockers body color.. it is an unfinished part of the body and was never intended to be painted red.Current: Brilliantrot '91 318is M20B25

Well, dang. Just realized that I had not updated this post. Here is what the car looks like right now - if you attended the 2013 Picnic, then you probably saw it as it was one of the featured cars...
I ended up installing the red mirrors (I do have the extra set in back, just in case), and installing the black pFeba rear spoiler.
The rockers are painted black as is the entire lower valence. For the front IS lip is sprayed in red.
The trim is satin black. I am thinking about installing the mTech1 spoiler instead, which should be painted red, and with a beautiful black rubber...all I need is to get one of those plate fillers.
Hope you like the photos.
More later.

Oh yeah. My local shops wouldn't even touch it for less than $4-6k (depending on which one) plus the labor to dismantle the windows, hood, carpet, etc.
I didn't want to have an open check book, so I hooked up with an independent. Gave me better price, and no open ends. Problem is, you cannot bitch about delivery time or 'delays' on his end.
For a local shop, this would probably be in the range of $7-8k job. We used DuPont paint and several coats of clear.1997 328i - SOLD
