Paint spoiler with FLEXSEAL Yay or Nay

I am working on the cosmetics of my car. My IS spoiler has cracks in the paint all over it. It was painted DS metallic originally but I am making the car a shade of silver and want the make the spoiler flat black. So I thought I would sand down the cracks and hit it with some FLEXSEAL. Hopefully that will give a decent flat finish and not crack for a long time.

What do you think? Yay or Nay?

    Try it.
It might come out too thick.

Likely going to end up too thick and with an unpleasant texture.

Best would be to sand as much as you can and use a minimal amount of body filler to fill anything that doesn't sand out.

FLexSeal is nothing more than automotive rubberized undercoating.

My Rieger lip is painted with Duplicor Spray in bedliner. Much nicer texture, very fine, and while very tough and rigid, is still flexible.

Well I didn't really think body filler would stick to the rubber and I didn't have any bed liner. So I went ahead and gave the flexseal a shot. It is a substantial amount of texture but I think it will be fine.

That doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would.

Do an entire E30 in that stuff, and rally cross it.

While the pic is not great, it is a good representation of what the lip really looks like from about 3 feet away. Any closer than that and you can still see some of the bigger cracks that didn't get sanded down well enough. Some of them were in the rubber and sanding them just seemed to make them deeper.

I am pretty happy with the results. Like I say, from 3 feet away it looks good. I think the texture will work against a dark charcoal matte metallic body color.;);)

Hmm. Looks ok if you have the right approach to the theme of the car. I'm surprised no one mentioned plasti dip.
