What paint to use on ABS plastic? Dupli-color paint matching to Schwarz?

I'm trying to save myself a couple dollars by painting my front and rear valences myself. I have an 87 325e and I hear that Dupli-color black paint matches Schwarz really well. I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience doing this?

The front valence I'm painting is an early model 325is front valence. The rear valence I'm painting is a Zender rear valence.

(Ignore the late model IS valence below it. I'm painting the Bronzit one.)

So I plan on sanding them down lightly just to get them prepped and ready. Dupli-color makes a sealing primer and a sanding primer from what I've found and I'm not sure which to use. I think I also saw a self-etching primer?

Any advice at all would be awesome!

Just get a automotive clear coat with a good spray pattern tip. Solid black is a easy Color to match. Only a highly trained eye would he able to tell the difference and even then its tough.

The clearcoat you use should be made for automotive spot repairs and you should lay on 2 nice even coats. Let me find a link to a good clear for you, brb.

Thanks so much! How many cans do you think I'll need to get two layers for both the front and rear valences?

To be safe I would say 2 cans of paint and one clear. The clear I linked is bigger than your average aresol can. Its about 1 and a half cans so one will be plenty. I only needed one when I painted my valance, bumper and is lip, I still had half a can left.

Looks awesome! Did you paint any part of that with Dupli-color white or did you just clear coat your original Alpine White paint?

Paint matched spray can. White is tricky to match but black is black. When I was at the body shop I would just use jet black for all the solid black car that came in. Good luck.
