Moar bondo (Finished) 4/30/13

I was sitting staring at the front of my car for a while he other day and i got an idea so i ran with it. Ive always loved the flush brake ducts on the mtech2 valence and i had a gallon of bondo sitting around wasting space so i got to brain storming. After 3 hours trying to remove all the textured rubber undercoating i set the ducts back in the valence about 2mm and used heavy duty loc-tite epoxy and secured them in place FOREVAR. I made sure to use plenty because i know my valence gets plenty of abuse. The rest of the work was just BONDO.

I already know im going to get flamed by the purists here on r3v so lets get on with it.

This is still rough, and ive only done one side. Im workin all weekend so ill try and get a much done as a i can when im home. Expect more pictures throughout the weekend.




If you have any suggestions or any concerns on something i may have over looked let me know.

I looked around but haven't seen anyone do this before so i maybe the first :P

I always wondered why i havent seen it done before but it could be the fact that it is very prone to cracking especially with a lowered car

i was toying with the idea of cutting the mounts for the middle vent filler and trying to recreate the mt2 vents but it seems too complicated. Maybe if i get a scrap valence ill cut it and do a full "mt2 lookalike"

How will the bondo hold up? I was under the impression a large amount doesn't hold well.

iv been thinking about this for some time, if i had an extra valence lying around to experiment on i would do it.
while your at it might as well see if you can do the same with an is or volvo lip, although lips take far more abuse.
also if your experimenting consider removing the bar between that oil cooler grill area, could look like crap but id be interested to see how it turns out.

It really not that much bondo. the thickest spots are the seam around the duct, besides that it no thicker then what would be used on a body panel

i thought about permanently attaching my is lip and making it flush but theres 3 problems

1.) Not Sure if it would look good
2.) I scrape way too much and it wouldnt hold no matter how much epoxy and bondo i use.
3.) i have a brand new oem lip, i couldn't bring myself to defile it.

On the other hand i though about getting an "i" lip and doing it and at the same time using a considerable amount of bondo to recreate the flared look on the mtech2 lip.

I appreciate the love, Im only 19 but my family has a good background with cars and especially e30s. Since before i could drive ive been working on car and learning as a go. I have no professional experience but i was able to bring my fathers vert from the grave yard. Had pretty bad front end damage. the rad support was push back a good 3-4 inches... The radiator was resting against the belts and pulleys lol. I didnt know much before that but with the help of google and rev shes back on the road.

Welcome to r3v! Same story here;) First e30 was my sisters wrecked vert with the core support pushed in half a foot, DIY'd it back to life. Google, r3v, and e30tech are great info sources if you can handle the people

yep did the same. it took a while but i got it. Im not actually new to r3v but i just recently made an account. Been lurking for about a year and a half now. Luckily i live about 30 mins from Guten so parts aren't too hard to come by.
