Removing paint from chrome grill and window trim

PO spray painted my grill and window trim flat black.

Paint's lookin a bit chipped now and I'd like to remove it and return the grill/trim to shiny chrome.

Do you know any good paint remover product or way to do this without damaging the finish underneath?

another topic but I also have a nasty key scratch from PO on passenger side that is a little rusted. I'd like to repair this myself as well. Was planning to sand the keyed area down til rust is gone, primer, fill keyed area w/ alpine white II touch up paint w/ several coats, wet sand, and clear coat. Does this sound like a correct sequence? read a little about doing this but wanna make sure i'm doing it right. thanks.

He sprayed your grills, or your kidney? I would be a little weary of paint stripper on either parts, shit is nasty. Read the what not-to-spray part.

I've used the spray-on Tal-strip paint stripper, but I highly suggest going for the can/bucket of the stuff. The spray on works well, but it's hard to get really good coverage, it makes a super-nasty overspray/fume, and you waste a lot. The kind in a can you can apply with a brush and get perfect coverage. Shit works wonders when applied correctly.

hey man yeah the KIDNEYs are what I need to strip... will leave the black grill black.

my main concern is damaging the finish underneath the paint. The chrome through a few rock chips still looks shiny and I'd like to strip the paint without making it look dingy.

got some stuff called "oops" today at autozone. was safe for the plastic grill and worked pretty well.


need to do something about the rock chips.

also got a new cap + rotor today but upon removing a plug wire from the old cap, one broke off in the cap. So now I'm riding the motorcycle:



picking up new plug wires tomorrow. should have just ordered them to begin with.
