doors mis-aligned...how?

So I noticed my door was kind of a pain to shut, it wouldn't shut fully unless there was some effort to it, and I noticed it appear to be misaligned with the other parts of my car. So I went ahead and bought 4 of the door hinge repair kits, replaced everything, bolted it all up and I still have this:









any idea how to fix this? It doesnt appear that the nuts on the door side of the hinge came loose, all the gaps appear to be pretty damn even on the sides and bottom of the door...I supposed it could be shimmed up a hair, the gap on the bottom looks a "little" tight

I'm thinking shims.

Is it just me? Or does the body line transition from the fender to door look just a tad low? If so, you may need to use a jack to hold up the door, when you snug up the bolts. I usually set the jack to contact a 2x4 under the door to spread the "love".

what kind of shims? are these a bmw part or just washers?

I guess it does look a slight bit low, but it doesnt seem to be as much as the difference is between the door window trim to the rear window trim.

Two part numbers .5mm shim- 41518173321 1.0mm shim-41517202047 But I would imagine there are bunches of these things laying around a wrecking yard or an E30 guys garage.

You can't shim a door "up".

You need to raise the door, and the best way to do that is with the jack and 2x4 method already mentioned. Snug the 2x4 between the jack and bottom of the door, loosen the hinge bolts, raise the jack a hair and then tighten the bolts back up. If you get the door lined up the way you want and it's still hard to close, THEN adjust the striker.
