    bumper shocks importance

i was wondering if the bumper shocks where important i recently bought a 325e as a project car and im tryna make it look like this http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7033/6...0c4ae201_o.jpg

now i need to do a bumper swap but if it is possible to remove the shocks instead of drilling holes etc that would be preferable. i have a 1984 325e and no i will not be using oem bumpers im getting mtech II body kit from ebay so i dont want your sermon on how bad it will look ill make it work i dont have money to buy oem

Well the shocks on the e30 especially the early ones with the diving boards are only effective for low speed crashes ( I think up to 15 mls per hour, maybe less) and considering the number of people doing bumper tucks by drilling and compressing the shocks (including me) would say not that important.
But then again those are only my two cents:)
Since you are gong to do a bumper swap you better buy some bumper shocks of a late model e30 they will bolt right in place of the old ones. The only thing you will have to do for a successful swap is to cut the towing hooks of the car and the new valance and bumper will bolt right on.
Now the back is a different story...
    Good luck

Those eBay body kits still require you to have stock bumpers. Otherwise, there is nothing for them to mount to.

M-Tech 2 bumpers use bumper shocks too.
