Trunk seal is the most common. May also be the tail light gasket or sun roof drains may be clogged

Antenna mast grommet is a possibility too.

Most common is the tail light seals.

            Suroof drains.

On a 1991 318is are there rear drains for the sunroof? I can see water drain behind the front wheels but nowhere else.

In my vert it was the antenna grommet. In my 4 door it was a tail light seal.

Both are cheap and easy fixes.

                LEaky trunk

BEst thing to do for a leaky trunk is allow it to vent out. Its kinda pricey to fix but if you got the materials then do it thin was.. UNderneath the batter there is a water hose for the battery overflow.. well i drill 2 smalls holes so water can drain out... works for me i did this on both sides so if water go it it found its self out.. works for me...maybe a bootleg solution but it worked
