e30 front grill question

I took the front grill piece off my e30 today, wanted to repaint it. Does the chrome part separate from the black grill section?
The chrome part has tabs in the black grill slot section but they don't seem to want to snap out, looks as if they might break off if I pry further.

Yea, the chrome are just caps. It was hard for me to remove when I did it, but they do come off. Watch that brittle plastic though.
