Early lip modded to fit late valance.

Picked up a cracked lip from an 88' vert in the junkyard for $10. Saw the early lip on ak-'s car (Abbi) and figured I'd give it a go.

    Test fit #1.

    It has a face.

    Bad crack.

    Filling with plastic epoxy.

    Test fit #2

Underside trimmed and ready for paint.

    Goo.

    Bondo and rust.

Mounted, so nice, might make a cover plate for the middle though.

Did you have any trouble with these bolts / clips at the fenderwell each side? These are the OEM fasteners for that valance lip.

It's a plastic nut, unthreaded. I assume it's supposed to act like a nylon locknut. But it takes so much torque to thread it that the rounded square head is spinning in the plastic clip.

We may go get stainless hex bolts with a shallow head and lock nuts.

I used strong zip ties because that's all there is really room for. You only have 1/4'' of drilling room. That hardware, would not work correctly.

            Thanks man!

So . . . the first time I rolled out of my driveway I found out the epoxy didn't get enough penetration (ha) on the side that wasn't completely broken. Also my shocks need replacing quite soon. I may have to try parking backwards up the drive.

            I'll fix it later . . .

I ran one of these for awhile until I smacked an errant rabbit. The plastic shatters quite easily.

Good thing plastic epoxy is cheap. I'll keep fixing this until the repairs approach half the price of an OEM IS lip, then I'll just buy one.
