I hate bronzit and wanted it ALL gone. that and the 3 layers of paint the PO put on the car. stripping it was the only way for me.

you get what you pay for. i believe it cost oliver 2500 for just the paint to go on to my car. i bought new fenders and valence from bmw. it was $680 for media blasting. ~6k for paint and body, 350 for clear bra. and about 1000 in new trim. call me crazy but i wish i had paid Oliver more for body and prep so that the car would have been even better. like having them sand smooth all the odd spots. say a shop pays a guy for 40 hours to do you the body and prep. that would be $3k in just labor for them that they have to pass on to the customer. these shows that do a car in a week are compete BS and look like shit in person. there is something to be said for taking your time and doing right in the first place.
    Much wow

The best is when you know painters and your brother in-law does body work and you can get paint and product at cost and they're willing hook you up for cheap. That's how my car is getting painted. If I had to go into a body shop and pay full retail price for paint job there no way in hell I'd be getting my car painted.

No big deal man..This does sound like a lot of work..but I still think $12k is a little on the steep side...specially when you can get a mint car for that price..that's how I look at it..that's just only my opinion though..others may feel $12k is justifiable

I stripped my car and repainted it myself from bare metal and painted it with PPG in a downdraft booth. Glasurit would of been $800 more in materials. Cost me $1500. Not $12K worth in my book. But that's my book, not yours.

Feels like a lot of this thread is finding validation for spending so much money on paint.

4k for oe quality paint at a local shop here in oc. No bodywork included though. 6-12k is ridiculous for a paint job.

No it just points out how many of us are broke.

This thread showed cheaper alternatives (minus the wrap that crap is too expensive) to an OE paintjob until a certain few decided to justify their $5K+ OE paintjobs.

The problem with all the cars the OP posted is that they look like shit.

Except the chalkboard car. I dig that.

I am currently painting my brothers 1970 Triumph TR-6 (It's got an M50TU in it... so it can fit in this forum right?) The car was raced and such before, fiberglass panels, pounds of crap bondo work, (literally baseball sized chunks came off when prepping and going back to metal.) Anyway, I got all of that smoothed out over about 150 hours. Its my first paint-job and I'm trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. As it sits now, In primer, i think it will look decent when finished. I'm using Kustom Shop paints, so its definitely not PPG or Dupont, but it looks decent. Still expensive stuff. I would charge about $12,000 labor on the car as it was. Paint is crazy expensive.
