    Floorpan question!

hey hows it going guys!!! going to pick up a 86 e30 . but the driver side floor pan is completely shot. i was wondering how big of a job and if i could just lay another floor pan on top and coat it in non rust paint and weld it over the existing one. would it work or would i have to cut out the old pan and weld the new one in. ALSO the passenger side rocker was patched should i replace the whole rocker or finish grinding down the welds and fill it and paint it.

Cut and paste the floor, you'll just trap moisture between the two floors if you weld the new one on top.

Sorry, cut the old floor out and weld in another panel.

ohh no worries man i just miss understood haha what i was thinking was to cut out the old floor pan then screw the new one into place tac weld it then remove the screws and finish the weld . the only problem is i have to find something to seal it with to keep out the moisture. people have said to use epoxy others say just use bondo. any suggestions

I did this, on both side, its the biggest paint in the ass, not really "hard" but very time consuming, I wouldn't buy it

its a dirt cheap price haha hard to pass up he only wants 500$ for it and hes throwing n another head. so if i have to do some work its fine as long as im not dealing with frame rot haha . how did you do yous?
                    any pictures?

I dont think you will be saving any money once you purchase consumables just for the welding required. The labor will exceed the price of a non rusted shell.

He is saying do not put one floor on top of another. If you do so moisture/salt will collect between the two floors and you will have a ruined top floor in no time in addition to the original issue.

If you have the patience, some skills with the welder, and the ability to measure/grind/repeat you can cut out the old and replace the floor pan. On the plus side you will have more tools and skills when you are done.

It is very important to look everywhere on a car with that much rust as it can pop up in the weirdest places and might not be worth the effort if there is much more than the floor pan to do.

undid the spot welds on the frame rail, cut the floor pan out and welded in the new one, did corrosion protection on the frame rails and undercoated both sides.

gonna have to look into all the labor required im hoping thats all there is for rust. the rest of the car seems preatty solid.
